Reviving Art in Modern Spaces: BUNA CAF'E-Linkou

SI JI FANG MING INTERIOR Transforms Metal House into Artistic Coffee Restaurant

The BUNA CAF'E-Linkou, located in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, is a testament to the power of art in transforming spaces. The design team at SI JI FANG MING INTERIOR drew inspiration from the geometric shapes and symbols in Klimt's paintings, using these elements to define the interior space. The result is a coffee restaurant that not only serves as a place for relaxation and conversation but also as a canvas for artistic expression.

The design's unique properties lie in its two themes on the main floor, adjacent to the main piece. On one side, murals inspired by Klimt's original paintings - The Kiss, The Three Ages of Woman, and Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I - evoke feelings of love, intimacy, and passion. On the other side, thousands of old wood bricks are randomly patched together to form an uneven surface, adding a contrasting rustic touch to the modern space.

SI JI FANG MING INTERIOR utilized a variety of materials to bring their vision to life, including glasses, old wood, marble, iron, and art painting. The design was realized in a former metal house, which was transformed into a coffee restaurant with a dramatic facade of diamond-shaped iron sandwich pieces, a laser-cut light-transmitting porch, and large frescoes of Klimt's famous paintings.

The project, which began in July 2016 and ended in December of the same year, posed several challenges. One of the most significant was the creation of the wall art, which was painted on a large scale and on old woods. Despite these challenges, the design team was successful in creating a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also rich in artistic atmosphere and worth revisiting.

The BUNA CAF'E-Linkou's unique design and artistic atmosphere have not gone unnoticed. In 2018, the project was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, a prestigious recognition given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to SI JI FANG MING INTERIOR's commitment to creating spaces that are not only functional but also inspiring and artistically significant.
